Fresh and Young Brains Development Initiative (FBIN) and Alexijan Consult in collaboration with Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) have kicked off Youth Farm (YFarm) 2018 Bootcamp for young agroprenuers selected from eight states across the country namely: Imo, Benue, FCT, Kogi, Kaduna, Enugu, Anambra and Rivers States in Abuja today.
The 5-day event which aims at building the capacity of these young Nigerians on Agribusiness and Climate Resilient Agriculture in Nigeria also had the launching of a well researched Manual on Climate Resilient Agriculture at the opening ceremony.
According to Nkiru Nnaemego, the
Founder, FBIN and Alexijan Consult, in her opening remarks, “This Bootcamp being the Second #YFarm Project is geared towards enhancing the capacity of these young people on how confront
and overcome the inevitable challenges such as effects of Climate Change on the Agricultural activities and produce for maximum yields”.
She added that the Manual, a product of Alexijan Consults and FBIN resource team’s years of research, is to serve as training and resource guide for not just these selected few across Nigeria but for anyone who desires personal and agricbussiness development.
“This manual aims to provide resource and training guide on Personal and Agricbussiness Development, Climate Change Adaptation, Peace and Conflict Resolution and Climate Smart Agriculture among others.” said Nkiru
“As you can see it covers a wide range of modules and scope in agriculture, which makes it an all-encompassing document, some sort of blueprint for agroprenuers anywhere in the world” she stated.
Joseph Amenaghwon, Policy and Governance Officer, OSIWA, while addressing the participants at the Bootcamp encouraged the young farmers to be resilient, focus and determined in their pursuits particularly in their various agricultural ventures as agricbussiness often come with several challenges which climate change effects is just one, out of many.
“Staying in agricbusiness requires your
personal determination and resilience, climate change is just one out of myriads of challenges that young farmers may face.” he said.
