It was a gathering of creme-de-la-creme in Nigeria and beyond yesterday, as the world came together to celebrate a Patriot and iconic Statesman; a former NIgeria’s President, General Abdulsalami Abubarkar as he turned 84.

The colourful event that took place at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja was done to honour General Abubarkar for his unrivaled achievements as the last Nigeria’s Military Head of State before Nigeria transitioned into Democracy in 1999 as well as his unforgettable positive contributions to national cohesion.

The major highlights of the event was the unveiling and launching of his three books, namely:
- A call of Duty: my autobiography
- Mediating for peace in Africa: A Festschriftin honor of General Abdulsalami A. Abubakar
- Nigeria’s Grand Patriot: Abdulsalami Alhaji Abubakar, GCFR.
In his autobiography, ‘Call of Duty’, the retired General wrote that he was deceived that Abacha wanted to see him on the morning of June 8, 1998.

Abdulsalami Abubakar also revealed the dramatic events surrounding the death of Sani Abacha in 1998, following which he became Nigeria’s new head of state.
