2014 Global Handwashing Day Commemoration event organised by Federal Ministry of Water Resources in conjunction with National Task Group on Sanitation kicked-off by 8am today, 15 October 2014. The event which was tagged “Choose Handwashing, Choose Health” commenced its symbolic handwashing activities at Powa international School, Garki II, Abuja with National flag-off by the Honourable Minister of Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Reng Ochekpe.

The symbolic handwashing event witnessed the turn-out of various stakeholders such as Wateraid, YouthWash, Police Officer’s Wives Association (POWA) amongst other formed part of sensitisation towards prevention of diseases for better healthy living.
Concluding part of the event took place at the Zuma Hall, Rockview Hotel, Abuja, where the Honourable Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu and other dignitaries were scheduled to perform their symbolic action of handwashing. Other activities such as drama presentation by school kids, goodwill messages from Unicef, WASH
amongst others were the highlights of events.
Speaking at the event, Honourable Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Reng Ochekpe, says simple of action regular handwashing with soap could prevent the spread infectious diseases such as diahorea, cholera etc thereby ensuring personal hygiene and sound health in our society.
