Mar 29, 2024 ##MenHealth

One of the topics that I know everybody seems to trivialize or rather shy away from is Halitosis!

Halitosis as simple as it may sound has caused several issues in homes, offices and businesses just to mention but a few.

So what’s halitosis?

It is a medical condition that causes the breath that comes from our mouth to send away those close to us or having conversations with us.

It can also be referred to mouth odour or bad breath by some people. Sadly, most people aren’t aware of the level of halitosis they have and how to reverse or manage it hence they just go about with a mouth oozing unpleasant smells everywhere they go without knowing.

What are the causes of Halitosis?

Interestingly, Halitosis is no respecter of anybody or gender, as it can happen to anyone as long as you eat, drink and breathe as a normal human being. Especially during Fasting. If the stomach is empty for too long, it can lead to halitosis.

However, most men have been said to be liable to halitosis more than the other gender due to poor hygiene reasons.

As a matter of fact, varieties of lifestyles have been said to be the causes of bad breath in both male and female.

The following are the causes of Halitosis:

1. Cigarettes/Tobacco: Those who are heavy on these two are 10 times liable to suffer halitosis at a point in their lives. Although it can be reversed if they seek medical help and tone down smoking.

2. Alcohol: Men who are heavy on all sorts of Alcoholic drinks can suffer halitosis too.

3.  Felatio/Cunnlingus: Engaging in too much oral sex and swallowing infected cum is a risk. Especially when giving it to someone with an infection. It can cause Bad breath.

4. Liver Cirrhosis:  This is a medical condition resulting from heavy alcohol that damages the liver. Once the liver is in bad shape, bad breath is inevitable.

5. Eating too much raw spice: Excessive raw intake of Spices like Garlic and other ones can lead to bad breath.

6. Poor Oral Hygiene: Inability to use the right oral care products as well as scrubbing to your tongue every time you brush your teeth is another cause.

7. Excessive Fasting without balance diet to break the fast.

How can you reverse/manage Halitosis

1.  Brush twice a day – morning and before going to bed with quality mouthwash.

2. Reduce heavy Alcohol intake

3.  Quit smoking.

4. Avoid excessive Fasting!

5.  Get a mouth spray. It works.

6.  Chew mint flavor gum before and after eating food, smoke or drinking alcohol

7.  Avoid giving a ‘head’ to strangers.

8.  Eat Cloves or its liquid extracts every morning

9. Eat a healthy diet and don’t over-fill yourself

10. Drink 2 glasses of water after brushing your teeth in the morning.

11..  If you’ve tried all the above and it didn’t stop visit a dentist!

Be intentional about your health! Healthy lifestyle pays.
