BREAKING: Bill To Pave Way For State, Community Police Scales First Reading!

The amendment of the constitution to pave the way for the creation of State Police scaled through first reading in the Senate on Thursday.

The amendment of Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Alteration) Bill, 2018 (SB. 694) was sponsored by Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

The Senate had set a two weeks target for itself to urgently amend the 1999 Constitution to allow for the establishment of state and community policing.

On Tuesday, the ad-hoc committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution met behind closed door to ensure speedy passage of amendment.
