Today July 15th, being the International Youth Skills Day as set aside by the United Nations, a Youth Group, the Better Today Youth Initiative in collaboration with Career Trainee has put together a seminar in Abuja tagged ‘Youth Skills and Career Actualisation’ to commemorate this special day.

The Seminar which had young professionals from various field of endeavours, writers, bloggers, Fashion experts, undergraduates, skilled artisans as well as other young entrepreneurs in attendance has been targeted at helping aspiring Start-ups, particularly those living within the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja to harness the untapped entrepreneurial potentials within them rather than waiting endlessly for employment that may never come.

According to one of the Organisers of the event, Mr Etoh Collins, “This summit is quite timely and has become crucial for us, so as to charge and ignite the passions of the Nigerian youth to never allow

current economic crises in the country to choke their dreams and urge to succeed in whatever career path they have chosen in life”.

Collins further noted that the summit seeks to help stimulate crucial discourse on the essence of skills acquisition amongst young people as well as bringing these skills to bare towards their personal development and the development of the society they live in.

The Guest Speaker at the event, Miss Solange, CEO of Solange Hair and Beauty Saloon, was there to inspire other young business persons to always strive to hone their raw skills. She narrated how she discovered her passion for hair and beauty business which has grown big now, while she was still an undergraduate of Veritas University.

“Like every other young Nigerian, I have never really known I would end up in beauty business, despite my educational background. However, I discovered that my passion grew uncontrollably for hair bussiness by fixing the hairs of my roommates and making them look beautiful back in the University, and today I am doing fine as an Hair and Beauty Entrepreneur in Nigeria”, she explained

She however urged other young people to hone and develop whatever they are passionate about, be it skills they have acquired over time or their innate abilities and gifts.

‘That your passion, gifts, talents and skills could be all you need to accomplish your lofty dreams and become great in life’ she urged.
