Its aim to increase the affordability of both mobile and fixed-line internet access dramatically, with a focus on achieving the UN Broadband Commission and Broadband Target of entry-level broadband services priced at less than 5% of average monthly income is one awesome and laudable stride in the 21st Century.
This meeting being its second coalition meeting in Nigeria is targeted at building the capacity of its coalition members of the three working groups that will be working on 3 priority issues as follows:
– Infrastructure Sharing and Open Acess
– Spectrum Policy and Regulation
– Consumer Advocacay and Pricing Transparency.
At the Meetting, Nnenna Nwakanma, who is Africa Regional Coordinator, World Wide Web Foundation said consumers are being confronted with several challenges in terms of efficient service providing from the local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) on daily basis. These challenges often stem from inadequate policy review, lack of clarity of Terms and Conditions as well opting in and opting out of data plan. “Consumers don’t get value for their money anymore, which is quite sad” she affirmed.
The workshop is scheduled to be concluded on 25th February.
