In what could be described as an open letter, the entire staff of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Radio have expressed their frustration by calling out the current AMAC Executive Chairman, Honorable Christopher Maikalangu to be proactive and quit his non-chalant attitude towards their unpaid salaries of over two years, since 2023.

OPEN LETTER TO THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OF ABUJA MUNICIPAL AREA COUNCIL AMAC, HON CHRISTOPHER ZAKKA MAIKALANGU OUR FRUSTRATION AS STAFF OF AMAC BROADCASTING SERVICE/MUNICIPAL FM 95.3
“In an unjust society, silence is a crime.”
The staff of AMAC Broadcasting Service Limited (ABSL), which oversees Municipal FM 95.3 and the Karshi Community Radio Initiatives Municipal FM 95.3 do not longer wish to be mute over what can only be described as high-handedness by an iron-man, the MD/CEO MR IBRAHIM YAKUBU PAM, who coincidentally is your in-law. PAM’S actions make everyone to feel that perhaps with you, he is untouchable. Having patiently explored all the available internal mechanisms to seek help and intervention especially as it bothers on staff welfare over the years, MR PAM has remained very adamant, stubborn and seems overwhelming the entire system.

Key Issues of Concern.
1. Delayed Appointments and Non-Payment of Salaries.Staff who began work as far back as 2023 (online radio phase) and those recruited in 2024/2025 were only given appointment letters in January 2025, without backdating to reflect their actual years or months of service in the organization. To date, salaries have either been delayed, partially paid, or withheld entirely. Mentioning anything salary had been the biggest you anyone would ever committed. Because of all that, only part of January 2025 was paid, and February’s salary was shockingly delayed until August 2025. Staff were even expected to say “THANK YOU” for such irregular payments. To put it clearly, there are category of staff that have worked for almost 2 years and some months (2023-2025 January) without appointment letters talk more of being paid as he keeps giving them false hope and assurances that the Executive Chairman is pleased with what they are doing and that he will soon make them smile. It will be good to also let you know that MR PAM has always resisted any suggestion or attempt to personally meet with you Sir as he seems to have informants everywhere concerning staff movements and discussions both in the Radio Stations and the Council. MR PAM leaves members of staff confused with the way he feels insecure about his MD position hence today, he will be saying, MR LAZARUS is coveting his position and tomorrow, he will say that MR INYANG is the one who does not want the progress of the organization or is in fact, plotting its take over, etc.
2. Financial MismanagementVerifiably, MR PAM has always asked staff to borrow money for the station’s operations.Contractors and service providers, including those who supplied solar and radio equipment, have been left unpaid, leading to disputes and even EFCC involvement, the issues he has been trying to dodge using whatever means.Verifiably also, printers have been deceived into producing materials without compensation, leaving staff to bear the shame.
3. Substandard Equipment. The purchase of second-hand, low-quality equipment has contributed to the station’s poor functionality. A proper audit by independent media engineers would reveal the extent of this mismanagement.
4. Toxic Workplace Culture.Staff who request their legitimate salaries risk being dismissed.Employees are frequently accused of offenses they know nothing about, creating unnecessary divisions and hostility. That is, once MR IBRAHIM YAKUBU PAM notices you have what to contribute to the growth of the organization, tries all he can to ensure you leave the organization just to ensure he gets breathing space for his usual lifestyle by pressesing his kind of buttons.Several respected broadcasters and staff, including Tesse Jackson, Amos Dzege, Katherine Banku Odok, and Kingsley Nwachukwu among many good hands, have reportedly been used and abandoned under his leadership. He employs at any given space and give people convincing hope that never existed anywhere in the world. Worst of all is that the Radio Station is currently unsafe for staff. MR PAM uses law enforcement agencies to intimidate staff and chase them to the live studio.
5. Insensitive LeadershipWhile AMAC was mourning the painful loss of Hon. Yusuf Amadu (Buhun Barkonun Abuja), your Aide on Community Matters, MR PAM chose that very moment to issue sack letters to staff despite earlier assurances from the Council that modalities were being worked out to settle outstanding salaries. This was also followed with enquiries “How’s the reactions.” The radio station is without an ideal or defined structure as he operates alone. PAM’S leadership style does not reflect professionalism, it does not have human face, workers are not treated as people with flesh and blood.
A Call for Action
Sir, as both the Executive Chairman and also, the Board Chairman of the AMAC Broadcasting Service (ABSL LTD) these verifiable issues call for urgent attention, the pain is unbearable and if left unchecked, humanity under MD PAM’S watch is endangered.
More so, the tax payers’ money and the vision behind ABSL would remain a mere shadow of itself.Sir, having endured the poor like iron-handedness of MR IBRAHIM YAKUBU PAM, we humbly but also urgently urge you to:
Set up an INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATIVE TEAM OF EXPERTS IN BOTH FINANCIAL AND SECTORS to investigate the management of AMAC Broadcasting Service Limited from inception to date.Ensure staff welfare, rights, and arrears are addressed without delay.
Restore public confidence in Municipal FM 95.3 and the Karshi Community Radio as worthy legacies of your administration.Respectfully,Concerned Stakeholders and Staff of AMAC Broadcasting Service
