In a bid to create enabling environment for proper planning for sustainable national development as well as to fully deliver on its mandate, National Population Commission (NPC) in collaboration with National Orientation Agency has said the commission was fully prepared to pioneer the first ever digital census in the history of Census in Nigeria.
The Commission made this known an interactive workshop with digital media practitioners and bloggers in Abuja last weekend.
The workshop which was part of agenda setting for the long awaited 2023 Census, which has also been scheduled to kick off in May this year, had top players in the digital media industry across Nigeria in attendance.
Speaking at the workshop, NPC Chairman, Nasir Isa Kwarra, stated that the commission was ever ready and willing to deploy various digital tools and devices for the successful execution of the programme.
“This year’s Census will be leveraging on digital tools and platforms for efficiency and effective implementation of the programme across the country,”
Nasir, added that the role of digital and social media practitioners cannot be overemphasized in getting the Nigerian populace online sensitized properly regarding what to do before and during the census.
He further emphasized the importance of accurate reporting in ensuring the success of the census exercise. He noted that social media influencers and bloggers have a significant role to play in ensuring that the public is well-informed about the census exercise and its importance.
