Agriculture remains the driving force behind the New Niger vision. Under the leadership of Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, Niger State is making bold investments to transform farming into a major engine of economic growth, job creation, and food security.

The administration has deployed 250 tractors and 50 combine harvesters across all 25 local government areas, distributed an additional 150,000 bags of fertilizer and other agricultural inputs, and expanded irrigation systems, agro-processing facilities, market infrastructure, and rural road networks to support farmers.

Recognizing that agriculture begins with people, the government has trained over 300,000 farmers and supported more than 200,000 beneficiaries through various agricultural intervention programmes. It has also committed over ₦2 billion to expand the Nigeria for Women Project, providing livelihood support to an additional 169,000 women, while empowering young people through the Enterprise for Youths in Agriculture (EYiA) programme.

These investments have created thousands of jobs, established a 1,000-animal livestock feedlot to strengthen the livestock value chain, boosted food production by millions of metric tonnes, and attracted billions of naira and hundreds of millions of dollars in agricultural investments, further positioning Niger State as one of Nigeria’s leading destinations for agribusiness and investment.

His leadership has inspired thousands of farmers, created employment opportunities and expanded economic opportunities for Nigerlites, and strengthened confidence in the #NewNiger vision.
