I recall a few months back when I was on this case of ethnic cleansing and killing of farmers in the middle belt.
Several people I had invited on my podcast to come and speak openly about the matter were too scared to do so.
Then it occurred to me that the issue was deeper than we had thought. Not until one Tiv Activist (name withheld) was courageous enough to honor my invite. He had damned the consequences and opened the can of worms on the show.
Sadly, not everything he said was released to the public. My team and I had to bear the heavy brunt of editing the seemingly controversial parts of the interview.
Of course, we are professional enough to know the implication of such an exposé.
While I continue to dig deeper into the matter, it became clearer to me that our President was indifferent towards these issues of killing due to his political agenda – he wouldn’t want to lose the North come 2027 election.
Now, the silence and laxity of our President towards the plight of non-muslim demography in that region of Nigeria has attracted unexpected and unwanted global attention, just like it happened during the Chibok girls abduction.
The only way out of this ‘fix’ Nigeria has found itself, is the proactiveness from the relevant authorities, which Mr President still plays a key role in its decision making.
Having said that, the USA issuing a threat to wipe out those who try to exterminate the Christian demography in the north may seem a good-intentioned rescue mission and some sort of a soothing balm for the affected communities for now. However, its far reaching impacts on our collective security might be too devastating to recover from, years to come.
The more reason why we must learn to act now and put our house in order before the external forces compel us to do so under unwarranted duress.
Let’s act now.and save ourselves from this embarrassment before the whole world.
