All Progressive Congress (APC) Climate Change Network (ACCN), a support group registered under the Nigeria’s ruling Party -APC has held its annual policy dialogue on Climate Change towards mainstreaming eco-consciousness in the political party’s administration and manifestos.
According to the ACCN National Coordinator, Greg Odogwu, while speaking during a roundtable in Abuja on Thursday: “ACCN is a party support group made up of environmentalists, Green thinkers/Eco-activists, as well as Development Advocates with a mission to ensure that APC effectively incorporates Climate Change and Green development agenda in the Party Constitution as well as Party Candidates manifestos in the subsequent election campaigns.

“The vision of ACCN is to make APC the most climate resilient political party on earth, while our mission is to change the political culture in Nigeria wherein people will be sustainability minded and environmentally conscious” said Odogwu.
He further added that the dialogue was all about catalysing conversation around mainstreaming climate policies in the democratic institutional administration.
“Having realized that there was no climate change policy that was being prioritized by the party administration and manifesto called “Renewed Hope Manifesto” we decided to come together as green advocates to bridge this critical gap”
“In other words, the outcome of this Policy Dialogue is to help the APC as a leading political in Nigeria to effectively incorporate climate change and Green policy in the Renewed Hope Manifesto.”
Odogwu stressed that even though the current administration is doing a lot around energy transition programme as well as couple of green agenda leveraging the already existing climate change Act, nevertheless, the ACCN will always be there to provide a support base for more engagement and interface between the party and the government.
“We will always be ready to create that interface because if the party is fully strengthened then when the electives enter into government they will have the political will to deliver effectively and efficiently particularly in the area of green/climate resilient agenda.” Odogwu stated.
