MTN Nigeria rakes N2.12 trillion from voice/data services between Jan and June 2025 – Report

Amidst the hike in data and voice services’ tariff, a report has shown that MTN Nigeria’s income from voice and data services reached N2.12 trillion between January and June 2025. This represents a 55.7% rise compared to the N1.36 trillion reported in the first half of 2024.

The company explained that the strong performance was due to high demand, price changes primarily made in the second quarter, and ongoing expansion of its active data user base.

MTN announced that its active data subscribers grew by 11.8% to reach 51 million, while the total number of mobile subscribers increased by 6.7%, bringing the total to 84.7 million.

The average data usage per user grew by 26.3%, reaching 13.2 GB, largely due to a smartphone adoption rate of 62.6% and a significant 41.2% increase in data traffic.

However, several reactions from netizens toward this development have not been palatable since the report hit the public domain.

One X user while reacting to this report said “How won’t it reach N2.12 trillion when they want to bankrupt us with high cost of voice and data services.”

Another said: “Blame the government! Government target is for the telecoms profit to rise through higher tariff and in return pay higher tax to the government. They are all about taking from us. Mention 1 thing you’re enjoying from government subsidy. sad!”

Nevertheless, Nigerians can only hope that these services would be made affordable for all the subscribers in the coming days.
