In marking the World Environment Day (WED) 2025 and as part of a visionary campaign to plant 1,500 trees across 3 states (Lagos, Ogun, and Abuja) , the African Clean-up Initiative (ACI), with the invaluable support of ProvidusBank Nigeria, kicked off a symbolic Tree Planting Project at Raberto School, Wuse 2, Abuja, and Metropolitan Junior & Senior College, Metropolitan College Road, Lagos.

This impactful event marked a key milestone in ACI’s 15th Anniversary Green Campaign, reinforcing its legacy of environmental advocacy and community-driven change.
The students, teachers, ACI team and ProvidusBank team actively planted Thuja, Sour Sop, Orange, and Mango trees, each representing a step toward restoring ecosystems and building climate resilience.
According to Dr Alex Akhigbe, Executive Director, African CleanUp Initiative, “This initiative was not merely about planting trees, it was about instilling hope and a sense of responsibility in young minds, as they were urged to nurture the trees and ensure they thrive.”
As part of the exercise, students were engaged on the urgent need to take climate action, reduce plastic waste, and protect natural ecosystems. The ACI team also taught them the critical roles trees play in absorbing carbon, purifying the air, and providing shade, practical lessons that complement the World Environment Day 2025 theme: “Beat Plastic Pollution” (#BeatPlasticPollution).

This is more than a planting exercise, the Raberto School, and Metropolitan Junior & Senior College activation is the first in Abuja & Lagos in a three-state campaign aimed at planting 1,500 trees to commemorate ACI’s 15th anniversary. The initiative continues in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun States, offering a platform for partners, schools, and volunteers to collaborate on local climate solutions with global impact.
