Senate Committee Rejects Natasha Akpoti’s Petition Against Akpabio

Amidst sexual harassment allegations levelled against the Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Akpoti had earlier put forward a petition in the Senate on the matter today.

However, the Senate Committee On Ethics, Public Petition while responding to her petition said such petition was already dead in arrival and as such would not be considered appropriate.

According to Chairman Senate Committee On Ethics, Public Petition, Senator Neda Imasuen, such petition runs contrary to Order 40, Subsection 4 of the Senate.

In his words:

“The petition that she (Natasha) presented today is actually dead on arrival; it runs contrary to Order 40, Subsection 4, which states that no senator may present to the Senate a petition signed by him or herself. Since that petition was signed by her, it will not be entertained by this committee.” Imasuen said.

More updates as the case unfolds.
