Sauri Growth Initiative Build Capacity of Women, Girls with Disabilities on Climate Change

The Sauri Growth Initiative for Women and Youth with Disabilities hosted an amazing 2-Day Training event titled “Building Climate Resilience: Empowering Women and Girls with Disabilities in Benue State” at the prestigious Golden Pan Hotel, Otukpo on 13-14th September, 2024.

Led by the dynamic Executive Director, Comfort Ekwo, this event was a game-changer in empowering women with disabilities to take charge of their climate change narrative by understanding climate change impacts, developing resilience strategies, and advocating for themselves.

With the guidance of Director Comfort Ekwo and the coordination of Project Officer, Ogbodo Precious Nneka, the training gathered 30 women and girls with disabilities to equip them with vital knowledge and skills to tackle climate change challenges. The sessions were interactive and aimed to promote inclusive climate policies and empower participants to advocate for their rights.

Facilitator, Samuel Kenneth Yashim, delivered engaging presentations on understanding disability, climate change impacts, climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, and advocacy for inclusive climate policies. His expertise and facilitation style received high praise from the participants, who appreciated his ability to make complex topics accessible and engaging.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the training, highlighting increased understanding of disability rights, climate action, and effective advocacy techniques. This empowerment will enable them to address climate change issues affecting their lives as women and girls with disabilities.

The Sauri Growth Initiative extended its heartfelt appreciation to Urgent Action Fund-Africa for funding this critical project. Comfort Ekwo, Executive Director of Sauri Growth Initiative, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “This training marks a significant step towards promoting climate resilience and inclusive policies in Benue State. We remain committed to supporting women and girls with disabilities, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are protected.”
