ACCO Nigeria to host a Forum toward improving Women, Girls access to ICT Education

African Centre for Citizens Orientation (ACCO Nigeria), an NGO in special consultative status with United Nations ECOSOC will be hosting a one-day Stakeholders Forum on Improving Women and Girls’ Access to ICT Education and Usage of Existing Facilities.

The event which has been set to hold at Community Park, Abuja on Thursday 9th of May, 2019 by 9:30am will have Bar. Adebayo Shittu, Honourable Minister of Communications to deliver the Keynote address.

The event will also attract the inauguration of ICT Access for Women and Girls Coalition, a network of individuals and organizations to promote digital inclusion for women and girls and achieve equitable ICT access for women and girls in schools and communities.

According to Casey Adeleye, One of the organisers, “the aim of this all-important event is to bring stakeholders in the ICT sector together to understand the current gender-gaps in ICT education, improving ICT access for women and girls in schools and communities, and how a more targeted and higher budget allocation for ICT programs will reduce digital gender gap in Nigeria”.

“Equality in access to ICTs is not only a key human rights issue; it also makes sound commercial and economic sense.” he stresses.

“Recent research suggests that ICTs boost economic growth. The World Bank estimates that every 10% increase in access to broadband results in 1.38% growth in GDP for developing countries. Intel estimates that bringing 600 million additional women and girls online could boost global GDP by up to US$13-18 billion”, Adeleye remarks.

All stakeholders in the ICT sector are expected to participate in this life changing forum. See you there!
