All children have the right to education but in Nigeria, Report shows that 10.5m children are out of school and this is the highest number of out of school children in the world with majority being vulnerable living in remote and desolate community slum of which poverty is the major cause why they do not go to school.
This gave birth to the partnership between two Non Governmental Organizations, Dreams from the slum Initiative and Transform a Life Initiative to host a strategic Back to School Project in Lagos, Delta and Kogi Stat respectively.
The project reached 1,000 children strategically of which some are out of school and others who attend different schools.
According to Omoyele Isaac success, founder Dreams from the slum Initiative ‘We strongly believe that when children lack their basic educational amenities it affects their academic performance and self esteem.
‘’The essence of the project is to support / sponsor out of school children back into school, provide educational materials for children so they can be smart in school.There is a need to help children have a better opportunity to what education has to offer without having anything hindering them
because when they have the necessary materials needed for them to learn, they can pay maximum attention to their studies..added by Mrs Fisayo Dayo-Samuel Ogunwale(Transform a Life Initiative). ‘’
A passerby during one of the outreaches in Ajegunle Lagos (Mr Ikepe Samuel) said he saw the children rejoicing on the street, because many of them could not afford all what they have been given.
While in Ajaokuta Kogi State, The Head Teacher of Evergreen Nursery and Primary School appreciated the kind gesture of providing good schools bags to Children who attend school with Nylon instead of school of a good school bag.
One of the children, Yewande Obogun, who is 8years old expressed her joy by saying ‘’ I didn’t have notebooks for all subject before but now I am happy I received enough books for all subject’’.
