Centre for Democracy & Development Celebrating ECOWAS at 40!

Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has organised a two day dialogue on the future of Democracy and Peace in West Africa. This dialogue was put together in celebrating 40th of the existence of Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) as an organisation and a powerful force behind the peaceful co-existence of West African Countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Sierra-Leone, Gambia, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Libera among others.

The dialogue which commenced today 27th July is themed”Celebrating the Economic Community of West African States at 40″ and it aimed at assessing the positive impacts of ECOWAS as a 15-member regional group with a mandate of promoting economic integration in all fields of activity of the constituting countries and considered one of the pillars of the African Economic Community since 1975.

According to Idayat Hassan, Director, CDD Abuja, she said CDD is duty-bound to celebrate ECOWAS, having been one of the leading CSO partner of ECOWAS since its inception of CDD programmes in West Africa. We at CDD really believe in the role of ECOWAS and the activities of the ECOWAS Parliament toward ECOWAS citizens.

The dialogue had top intelligentsias in attendance as discussants, great personalities such as Dr Kole Shettima, Africa Director of Macathur Foundation and Chair of the International Governing Council of CDD, Professor Ibrahim A. Gambari, Former Head of United Nations African Union Mission to Darfur; Dr Remy Ajibewa, Director of Political Affairs ECOWAS Commision amongst Others.
