The 2015 edition of Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF 2015) is focusing on harnessing the potentials of Internet governance for sustainable development in Nigeria.
The forum scheduled for 21th July 2015 at NAF Conference Center & Suites, Abuja is to be chaired by Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communication Technology, Dr. Tunji Olaopa will be leading other dignitaries to declare the forum open.
The President of the Forum, Chairperson of the Nigeria Internet Governance Local Multi-stakeholders Advisory Group, Mrs. Mary Uduma, in a statement released in Abuja said the objective of this year’s forum is to harness and engage the potentials of Internet governance multi-stakeholder process towards enabling sustainable development goals in the country.
This according to her, requires among others, harnessing and promoting the potentials of Internet for economic growth, human rights, security, social inclusion, and fiscal transparency.
She said the forum is expected to stimulate multi-stakeholders’ dialogue on Internet governance for sustainable development.
She said the forum will also focus on building consensus among stakeholders on the best practices approach to implementing Internet-enable Sustainable Development framework in the country.
However, she maintained, it was also expected to that the forum will help address and proffer solutions to the nation’s most critical sustainable development issues within the context of Internet governance, The president said the forum would crystalize the local multi-stakeholder positions, input and contributions into the global Internet Governance Forum coming up in João Pessoa, Brazil this year.
The convener of NIGF 2015 event also earmarked July 20th as the pre-NIGF 2015 Youth Workshop, to promote Internet governance for youth empowerment, while building on the existing opportunities to enhance the growth of young entrepreneurs within the Internet space
