VOTE Abel W. Cheayan: UN Habitat Youth Advisory Board Election 2015

Together we can make Africa strong continent for youth development

As United Nations (UN) Habitat: Youth Advisory Board  2015/2017 Election is fast approaching, couple of Africans have been selected as the candidates to be voted for into the Advisory Board. And Abel Williams Cheayan is certainly one of the African Candidates for this year. However, he would need the support of every African youth in order to fully represent the African continent. In this regard, a powerful campaign platform has been launched with the hashtag #voteable2015 with various campaign managers across the African Continent. The role the these campaign managers is basically to drive the campaign to get Abel William into the Youth Advisory Board at the UN Habitat level. Read more about Abel below:

Abel Williams Cheayan is an International Youth and Environmental advocate. Abel is the Founder/President of the Natural Resources Research Initiative (NRRI). He has six (6) years’ experience working within the Civil Society Originations (SCOs) on related issues that involved Youth engagement, activism, Human rights, and community development. Abel is commonly knowing among fellow young Africans leaders as the young expert on Extractive Industries, and cooperate accountability research and advocacies. His work has inspired and empowered many young people around Liberia, Ghana and other parts of Africa.

He is also the CEO/founder of Guardian Care; an organization providing aid to orphans and widows in post conflict recovery Liberia. Abel is one of the 2014 Mandela Washington Fellows. Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of President’s Barack Obama Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and embodies President Obama’s commitment to invest in the future of Africa.   He completed his Civic leadership track at Tulane University, in New Orleans Louisiana, USA.  Abel also has great experience working with Government agency and international organizations.

In 2014 he worked as Research Assistant with the Louisiana Bucket Brigade (LABB) Louisiana, USA.  He has been instrumental in providing Youth Consultancy to Inter-sectorial Department of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to design program that integrate youth into the EPA activities in Liberia. Abel is also the Youth Representative on the UNDP/EPA Liberia Energy and Environment Board. Currently Abel is interning as the Climate Change and Agriculture Officer with Send Ghana an organization working to promote peace, empower women and farmers based within the North of Ghana.

Currently, Abel is the Secretary General for the Mandela Washington Fellowship-Liberia and his work and leadership involvement has provided him the chance to serve as an example of orphans in our global village.  He also serve as the UNEP Tunza Youth Representative Liberia; Abel is the 2014 One Young World Ambassador to Liberia and he is well known for his strong achievement into International advocacy. During the One Young World Summit Abel motivated and led young leaders from more than 20 countries from around the world to present an “Act-now to stop Ebola” petition to the world health Organization in Dublin; Ireland. During the Ebola crisis, Abel, through his organization was actively involved with educating communities about Ebola prevention in Liberia.
