1st Northern Nigerian Youth Summit Holds on 12th May in Kaduna

The first Northern Nigerian Youth Summit is set to hold on Tuesday 12 May 2015 in Kaduna. The Summit which is proudly supported by Arewa Consultative Forum will be having Top Northern Power Brokers in attendance such as Mallam El-Rufai, Kaduna State Governor, Aliyu Babangida, Niger State Governor, Aisha Alhassan amongst others.

About the NNYS

More than 50% of the Nigerian youth population are from the Northern part of the country, and the future prosperity of the region lies in the hands of the youth generation. Recognising the need for harmony and unity among the young people irrespective of the diverse backgrounds, and promotion of youth development agenda in the region, the first Northern Nigerian Youth Summit (NNYS) is organised by the young people themselves in order to achieve the followings:

  1. To identify major youth issues bevelling the young people in Northern Nigeria with a view to outlining recommendations and solutions.

  2. To conceptualise the framework for Northern youth participation in National and international development agenda

  3. To initiate a consolidated and harmonised movement that will unite all youth-led organisations in Northern Nigeria

The NNYS is centred on the following thematic areas:

Education:
Employment:
Environment:
Youth Participation:
Social Cohesion and social issues:
Orientation and social values:

About the new youth platform:

The new platform will serve as a network of all youth-led networks in the north. It will also be the official and recognised voice for the entirely young people in the north. It will also be the organised body that will be protecting the socio-economic and political interest of the northern young people at states, national and international level. It will undertake youth development and empowerment projects. It will support and partner with youth-led organisations in the north. It will have broad memberships and affiliates from the youth organisations in the north. It will be endorsed by the Arewa Consultative Forum and Northern governors’ Forum.
The steering committee responsible for drafting the structure, framework and name of the new platform will be elected at the NNYS.
