JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation Officer

Reporting to: Country Representative

Supervising: N/A

Key Working Relationships: Programme Staff, Heads of Departments, Tactical Team, Finance Manager, Relevant Regional & UK Staff

Location: Country Office Abuja

PURPOSE OF JOB:

To support the implementation of WaterAid’s country strategic initiatives by ensuring that all country thematic activities are properly included in realistic and achievable annual Plans and effectively monitor progress against objectives. The position holder will provide management information for effective decision making, operations and performance at all levels.

The position holder will lead in the development of CP periodic planning (monthly, quarterly and annual), as well as the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) systems.

Key Responsibilities
1. Planning and Coordination
 Support Senior Management team in the development of Country Programme plans and budgets.
 Support Heads of Departments in the development and implementation of annual plans in line with budgets and programme strategy
 Provide strategic support in managing the implementation process in the CP

  1. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
     Support managers, implementing partners and sector actors in setting performance standards and developing systems, templates, tools and other support material to facilitate performance monitoring, planning, research, outcome evaluation and the effective and timely information flow between country, regional and global levels to increase efficiency and reduce ad-hoc information requests.
     Lead in the development and use of the PROMISE software and its application and support its development in the WaterAid West Africa.
     Support the delivery of the country strategic objective on research, learning and documentation
     Lead in the preparation and submission of all Country Programme reports, the annual output verification exercise and the impact assessment at the end of the programme cycle in close collaboration with Programmes Department Monitor the CP’s Country Strategy and MPBs to promote the review and achievement of the CP strategic objectives
     Support in developing an effective knowledge management system for WaterAid and partners
     Promote and monitor the mainstreaming of inclusion in WaterAid’s Country Programme

Education: University Degree (Bsc), Master Degree.

  1. COMMUNICATION AND ADVOCACY ASSISTANT

Job Description

Position: Communication and Advocacy Assistant

Duration: One year renewable contract

Reports to: Communications and Campaigns Manager with dotted line reporting to Advocacy and Partnerships Manager

Key Working Relationships: Head of Governance, Communications and Campaigns Manager, Policy & Sector Support Coordinator, Advocacy & Partnerships Manager, Donor Contracts & Fundraising Coordinator, Programme Support Coordinator, State Programme Managers, Policy Research Officer, Fundraising and Donor Relations Manager and WASH Sector Stakeholders (Media & CSO networks, etc.)

Location: Country Office, Abuja

Purpose of Job:
The Communication and Advocacy Assistant will provide support to the Governance department in all aspects of communications, campaigns and advocacy. The Assistant will play an important role in supporting our social media advocacy, advocacy to stakeholders, events organisation, publications, documentation and several campaigns.

Key responsibilities:
Primary tasks for the Communication and Advocacy Assistant will include:
Supporting the Communications and Campaigns Manager and Advocacy and Partnerships Manager in:
o Successfully promoting and strengthening the profile of WaterAid in Nigeria through the media and other exhibition opportunities
o Facilitating campaigns for WaterAid key events and coordinating support to Civil Society and Media Networks
o Implementing WaterAid’s communication strategy in Nigeria and ensuring compliance with all branding requirements in the Country Programme.
o Initiating and follow-up of advocacy to key stakeholders
o Coordinating WaterAid Nigeria’s support to national and state level Media and CSO networks on campaigns and work these organisations to achieve targets
o Researching and developing content for press statements, speeches, popular campaign materials, briefing notes, media publications, newsletters, bulletins, blogs and case studies

Assisting Team members in:
o Developing layout for WaterAid in Nigeria publications
o Support in ensuring that key information on WASH issues is captured, documented and shared
o Media monitoring (print, broadcast and digital) and maintenance of media and photo database
o Developing content for website and ensuring WaterAid in Nigeria’s website is easily accessible and contains up-to-date and relevant information
o Maintaining and updating stakeholders databases
o Supporting the RLC team in Nigeria to ensure the Country Programme Resource Centre is equipped with required materials and functioning to full capacity and purpose
o Transcribing minutes, meeting notes and interviews
o Providing administrative support such as responding to routine correspondence etc.
o Supporting the organisation of meetings, seminars and conferences
o Other duties that may be assigned

Skills / Abilities / Personal Qualities
o Excellent command of the English language
o Excellent verbal and written communications skills — Communicating information and ideas in writing and speaking so others will easily understand.
o Computer literate, including strong online research skills and Microsoft packages
o Experience and ability in taking good pictures; in using publishing and layout software (such as Adobe Indesign) and photo software such as Photoshop
o Must be organised, able to plan and prioritise
o Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting
o Ability to deliver work on time and to a high standard
o Show Initiative and be creative — willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges
o Ability to organize events, meetings and campaigns with minimum supervision
o Good interpersonal skills
