WaterAid Nigeria and Vote4WASH Campaign Planinng Committee Meet to Strategise

WaterAid and Vote4Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Campaign Planning Committee at the state and National met today 6th November, at Newton Park Hotel Wuse-Abuja. The objective of the meeting is to deliberate and develop clear and workable strategies toward electioneering process in the forthcoming General Election in Nigeria.

Vote4WASH Campaign is an initiative of YouthWASH Nigeria designed and intended to mobilise and sensistise citizens on how leverage on their electoral rights to seek for their basic needs such as improved acess to clean water both at rural and urban centres in the country.

Strengthening citizens engagement on electioneering processes for increased accountability in water, sanitation and hygiene sector and equitable distribution of inclusive services is one of the major objectives of the Vote4WASH Campaign said Mr Nature Obiakor, National Coordinator YouthWASH/Vote4WASH Campaign.

Mr Saheed, a representative of WaterAid who actually coordinated the meeting said WaterAid Nigeria being the major partner of YouthWASH Nigeria since its inception sees Vote4WASH Campaign as a welcome development that would in turn promote and project the need for WASH and improved access to clean water as well as promote accountability in governance.

At this meeting, WASH representatives from various states across the six geo political zones were there to present their proposed plans for Vote4WASH campaign.
Vote4WASH Campaign has been scheduled to kick-off from this November 2014 to March 2015, which makes it roughly 5 month Campaign.

According to Obiakor, we are also calling for partnership with various organisations, political parties and aspirants to collaborate in the process for it to produce elected officials who are committed to the promotion of WASH activities.
