Green Economics Nigeria brought together critical stakeholders on Green Economics worldwide today 9 October 2014, at Ladi Kwali Hall of Sheraton Hotel Abuja to make a public presentation and the launching a book titiled ” Transiting To A Green Economy” authored by one of the Nigeria’s green intellectuals, Chidi Magnus Onuoha.

This book has become the first compendium of knowledge for mainstreaming that arcane discipline known as “Green Economics” said Magnus. He further stated that Green economy is defined as an economy that results in reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcity, and that aims for sustainable development without degrading the environment.

Senator Chris Anyawu, Chairperson at the event, who is also one of the Imo State Gubernational Candidates come 2013 said all sectors of the Nigeria’s economy must witness green budgetary influx so as to develop a sustainable green infrastructures said Senator Chris Anyanwu. She also said harnessing renewable energies to achieving energy efficiency would serve a catalyst for speedy economic growth and development in Nigeria and Africa.

Green economy would not only enhance Nigeria’s economic and national development, it would equally place Nigeria among the nations of the world that are energy efficient said Greg Odogwu. During his presentation he posited that “having gone through the book, It is a repository of knowledge, encompassing critical ecological issues ranging from the Great Green Wall project to green policy. Therefore, it is a fulcrum of development for this nation”

Greg Odogwu being one of the top green journalists in the country mentioned Africapitalism, which is driven by Tony Elumelu, a renowned Nigerian Bussinessman and Investor. He alluded that Africapitalism is the forerunner to a new African Green Economy, tailor-made for us in Africa, because Providence has blessed us with more biodiversity and natural resources than most of other regions of the world.

Mr Etiosa, a founding Member of Green Economics Nigeria said Green Economics Nigeria began officially in 2011 with the aim to build a sustainable green economy through the harnessing of abundant sources of renewable energies available in Nigeria toward achieving energy efficiency as a nation.
