At some point in our lives, we are confronted with myriad of trials. These trials are usually unforeseen and most times seem insurmountable. It is a period when most of us say to ourselves “I’m at my wit’s end”, “I feel Iike dying”. Once this period crop up, brace yourself; don’t lose it yet, all you need do at this time is to check how strong and balance your support system is.
What do I mean by support system? Undoubtedly, Support system has wide range of meanings, particularly to various professionals in the field of humanity, science and technology. For instance, In Information and communication technology (ICT) there is an intertwine word like Decision Support System (DSS) is a computer-based information system that supports business or organizational decision-making activities. Honestly, that is just the simple of analogy of what any support system should look like both in the context of humanity and technology, although opinions may differ.
The kind of support system that I am refering to, is some kind of unusual encouragement, trust, confidence, faith and reliability you and I tend to enjoy and receive from those that claim to be our close friends, relatives, family, mentor, pastors or religious leaders, spouses at the face of adversity, tribulations, tests, pain, dejection, despair and even death. However, ‘rat race’; unwholesome competititon for survival has compelled every individual to be lover of themselves selfishness, avarice, nepotism and favouritism have become the ‘in thing’. I can say boldly that the word ‘support system’ among us is just a ruse or better put becoming extinct. The common cliche now is ‘trust nobody but yourself’. It is even horrific that some people do not even trust themselves. So, where is the support system? We need to begin to ask one another this awkward question that do I really have a support system? Who do I confide in? The kind of family I belong to would they be there for me should any trial befall me?
Speaking of family, family is the microcosm of any society and it should be the first support system, but I must say, that family values are gradually becoming eroded. Oftentimes when our families fail us, many tend to seek support system in churches, mosques and other related organizations but still they let us down.
The horrible truth is that we all need support system in our lives. It is pertinent to know that support system begin with you, by yourself and with your own actions. how do I mean? It is simple, when you are willing to be there for others when they need you, they will never forget your good gestures, because it is what you give that you get in return. That is simple ‘law of karma’. If you and I want a good support system let us begin to work towards that now. By being good to people around us and lending helping hands to others, you are building your support system. Some might even repay you with evil but do not change. It doesn’t mean those you help must help you in return but remember the saying, one good turn deserves another!
