Excessive sunshine is rather a blessing than a curse as many would view it, particularly in African nations known for peculiar hot weather as a result of steady sunlight which is also known as solar energy, the most common renewable energy. However, one would wonder what are the benefits of this sunlight to human existence?
From ages, sunlight has been beneficial to human in numerous ways. Aside from the traditional use of sunlight which is for drying laundry, preserving perishable farm crops such as yam, vegetables, cassava etc, It has also been confirmed by microbiologists that sunlight killed harmful microscopic germs on the surface human skin.
However, Couple of decades ago, research has shown that depletion of Ozone layer has even made sunlight to become harmful for humans. This is as a result of excessive carbon emission, fumes and other substances released into the atmosphere.
Nevertheless, the good news, if you ask me, is the ability to generate clean and safe energy from sunlight which is equally renewable. It is no news, that standing at every street corner in africa is one solar streetlights. In china and india which have been reported to have the highest energy consumption in the world, have completely opted for renewable source of energy with solar energy supplying 43% power to their citizens. African states should take a cue from these two countries in order to able to meet up with energy efficiency target for rapid economic development.
